Projects
Society members continue to influence and make progress with projects on the Weaver Navigation.
There is much work in progress including the potential restoration of Frodsham Locks.
Here are some of our projects:
Volunteer Work Parties
The Society has a postive and strong working relationship with the local Waterways management team.
Members are now encouraged to join the RWNS Volunteer Team. Recent work has included a Painting Work Party at Vale Royal Locks
Boundary Markers and Mileposts
Volunteers researched the whereabouts of existing and lost boundary markers and mileposts along the banks of the River Weaver.
The exhibition of the results of their work was displayed in Runcorn Library, Co-op supermarket in Frodsham, Tesco supermarket in Northwich and Winsford Library.
This project was funded by the Local Heritage Initiative ( part of the Heritage Lottery Fund administered by The Countryside Agency ).
Sutton Weaver Bridge Keeper's Hut
The bridge keeper's hut beside Sutton Weaver swing bridge was saved from demolition by lobbying the former Vale Royal Borough Council.
Newbridge Bridge
The Society persuaded British Waterways to restore Newbridge to full working order. On 27th June 2001, Bolle Bier was the first boat to pass through the opened bridge for many years.
