Canal and River Trust have launched appeal for volunteer lock keepers on the River Weaver ....

Canal and River Trust is calling on people across Cheshire to support the region’s canals by becoming a volunteer lock keeper.

This includes Northwich's Hunts Lock and Vale Royal Locks on the River Weaver.

Full training is provided and people of all ages (over 18) and experiences are encouraged to apply.

Volunteer lock keepers work on a shift basis between April and October, while many stay on over the winter months to help the Trust with other work.

Applications for the role are now open, with training and induction beginning in March.
