Society recognised with Award
1st May 2015

The River Weaver Navigation Society has won an Oscar .....

Winsford Town Council hold annual, "Oscar Awards," for the various ventures conducted in the Council area during the previous year that are considered of particular merit.

Our Society was pleased to learn that it had been nominated for the, "Event of the Year," award, for its efforts in organising the Winsford Salt Regatta last September.

Four of the Society committee members, Nigel Hughes (who Chaired the Rally Committee), John Tackley, Jim Mole and Bob Osborne and their partners were invited to the ceremony in the town's Lifestyle Centre where the awards were presented to those individuals and organisations fortunate enough to be successful.

The Society was successful in winning this Award, against strong competition, and an attractive trophy was presented for the Society to keep.

Our Chairman, John Tackley said, when receiving the award:

"Winsford Town Council certainly helped us by backing up our efforts. The support we received from them in improving the site was truly encouraging, and the subsequent popularity of the event means that we will be holding a similar event this year."

Since the Regatta took place their have been further improvements to the site, and a water point, with a standpipe and tap kindly donated by Canal and River Trust and accessed by a BW key, has been installed by the Council and is now in use. Further dredging has also taken place.

So - the dates for your diary for the next Regatta - September 18/20th 2015, whether you come by boat, or come on foot, there will be plenty to enjoy.
