A look at the history of canals in and around Braunston, Northamptonshire, in the wider context of the history of transport, from Roman roads to early river transport, through turnpikes, the canal age, the railway age and the motorway age. The talk describes the effects on Braunston of the arrival of the Oxford Canal and the later Grand Junction Canal and the many subsequent changes arising from the rise and fall of freight traffic and the development of leisure use.
